CCH Chapter 4--Symbolic Derivatives

In this laboratory notebook you will be using Mathematica's built-in derivative taker to investigate a few of the basic shortcut rules used when taking derivatives symbolically (as opposed to the numerical and graphical techniques that we have utilized so far.) You will be especially looking at the Product Rule and the Chain Rule.

You can now switch to the actual Mathematica practice notebook by clicking on the button at left. It will take a while to start up! Don't forget to come back here when you're done by using the Applications menu! See you in a few minutes.

If you happen to be feeling particularly lost, or insecure about the results you obtained in the Mathematica notebook that you just completed, then you may click on the button on the left to go and check the answers you should have gotten. (Note: Only the answers, the Output cells, are given. It's still up to you to determine how these answers were found.)

Welcome back! Hopefully everything went well. You may now go to the Table of Contents for all of the Calculus I Labs, or simply quit.
